Natrona County law‑enforcement agencies have opened the application window for the annual Shop With a Cop program. Families who meet the eligibility criteria can apply through November 13 to secure a spot for their child on the shopping days of December 12 and 13.
How the program works
Participating agencies—including the Casper Police Department, Wyoming Game and Fish Department, and Wyoming Highway Patrol—partner with the two Walmart stores in Casper. Children who are selected receive a gift card that can be used to purchase Christmas presents for themselves and their families.
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Child is between 3 and 12 years old.
- Family resides in Natrona County.
- Child can shop independently from parents or guardians.
- Child must be present on the designated shopping day to receive the gift card.
Families whose children are chosen will be notified by phone during the week of December 1. Promptly returning the call confirms participation and secures the child’s place on the wait‑list.
Application process
Paper applications are available at any Natrona County law‑enforcement office and at the participating agencies listed above. The forms can also be downloaded from the Natrona County website. If a family has more than one eligible child, only one application is required.
Once the application deadline passes, the agencies will review submissions and select participants based on need and eligibility. Selected families will receive a phone call with further instructions.
Why the program matters
The Shop With a Cop initiative aims to provide a safe, joyful holiday shopping experience for children in need while fostering positive relationships between law‑enforcement officers and the community they serve. By partnering with local retailers, the program helps ensure that families can celebrate the season with meaningful gifts.
Community members are encouraged to spread the word to neighbors who may qualify. For additional details or to obtain a paper application, visit the Natrona County website or stop by any participating law‑enforcement office.
