Natrona County Considers Lodging Tax

The Natrona County Board of Commissioners will hear a request to place a 2% local lodging tax proposition on the November general election ballot during its meeting Tuesday. The tax is paid by visitors staying in local hotels, motels, campgrounds, and short-term rentals. County residents don’t pay it unless they stay in such facilities.

Lodging Tax Proposition

VisitCasper CEO Annette Pitts will discuss the ballot proposition to maintain local funding at the full 4% rate. A 2020 state law guarantees tax boards an extra 2% if voters approve. Commissioners will also review a $353,279 Federal Aviation Administration grant offer for the Casper/Natrona County International Airport.

Airport Director Glenn Januska will present the proposal, which covers 95% of allowable costs for Phase 1 design work to rehabilitate the airport’s general aviation apron. The county must execute the grant by Aug. 15. The design project is scheduled to finish within four years.

Other Agenda Items

Development Director Sabrina Kemper will seek approval to rejoin Sustainable Strategies, a Washington, D.C.-based grant services group, for fiscal year 2027. Rejoining will cost the county $13,920 per year, or $1,160 per month, for grant-writing and consulting services.

The commission will also consider a $22,257.10 contract with the City of Casper to operate the ASSIST transit system outside city limits. The system focuses on serving elderly and disabled passengers, with the county’s payment serving as a 23% match for state and federal funding through June 30, 2027.
