Nancy Guthrie Ransom Notes Investigated

The FBI Phoenix office announced that some ransom notes sent to news outlets in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of NBC “Today” show anchor Savannah Guthrie, were not legitimate. However, other notes might be and are still under investigation.

Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her Catalina Foothills home in Arizona five months ago. The investigation is still ongoing, with local authorities overseeing the case and the FBI assisting.

Several ransom notes were sent to local media, including CNN affiliate KOLD-TV and TMZ. The initial note demanded millions of dollars, while a second note allegedly claimed Nancy Guthrie died shortly after she was kidnapped.

The Guthrie family has been dealing with apparent extortionists for several months, adding more complication and pain to an already difficult situation.
