Texarkana, Ark. – Late Wednesday night, a tragic traffic collision claimed the life of a motorcyclist after a vehicle fled from police at the intersection of Realtor Avenue and North State Line Avenue.
Police attempt to stop suspect vehicle
At approximately 9:30 p.m., a Texarkana Arkansas Police Department (TAPD) officer located a male driver who appeared unconscious behind the wheel of a car near State Line and Texas Boulevard. The vehicle was still in gear with the driver’s foot on the brake. When the officer approached and asked the driver to shift the car into park, the driver suddenly became alert and accelerated away.
Collision and fatal injuries
The suspect vehicle entered a CVS parking lot, exited, and traveled north on State Line. At the intersection of Realtor Avenue and State Line, it struck a motorcycle. The impact caused the suspect vehicle to lose control, crash near St. Michael Drive, and catch fire. First responders arrived quickly, but the motorcyclist had sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation underway
Texarkana Arkansas police officers, joined by members of the Texarkana Arkansas Fire Department, attempted emergency medical aid, but the effort was unsuccessful. The identity of the deceased rider has not been released.
The driver of the fleeing vehicle was not found inside the car after the crash and appears to have fled the scene. Arkansas State Police have been notified and are working to obtain warrants for the suspect. TAPD’s Criminal Investigation Division is also handling the case, while the Texarkana Texas Police Department provided traffic control assistance.
Call for witnesses
Authorities are asking anyone who saw the incident or has information that could help locate the suspect driver to contact TAPD at 903‑798‑3130.
