MotoGP championship leader Marco Bezzechi has been banned from the next race after slapping a track worker following a crash in the Czech Grand Prix sprint race.
Incident Details
Bezzechi lost traction in a corner and skidded into the gravel trap. As he tried to recover his bike, he appeared to slap the marshal twice. The incident was caught on camera and has huge championship implications.
Bezzechi was leading the riders’ standings going into the weekend’s Czech Grand Prix. However, his weekend took a turn after the crash and the subsequent incident with the track worker. He was called to the stewards and slapped with a one-race ban, ruling him out of Sunday’s Grand Prix.
His teammate Jorge Martin now has a chance to catch up in the standings. Martin scored five points in the sprint race and is just 15 points behind Bezzechi in the standings.
