Moose‑Wilson Road in Grand Teton National Park Closed Through Mid‑November

Beginning tomorrow, Sept. 8, the National Park Service will close the Moose‑Wilson Road in Grand Teton National Park to all vehicles between the Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve and the Moose trailhead. The closure is expected to remain in effect through Nov. 15, after which the road will be repurposed for seasonal winter‑recreation activities such as snowshoeing and cross‑country skiing.

Why the road is shutting down

The park has been busy with a series of improvement projects this summer. Work includes a new roundabout near the park entrance, upgraded infrastructure at the Taggart Lake Trailhead, and expanded parking at the Death Canyon Trailhead. The Death Canyon Road and its trailhead will stay closed for the remainder of the 2026 season.

Impact on visitors

Travelers who normally use Moose‑Wilson Road to access the Preserve, Moose, or the surrounding trail system will need to plan alternate routes. The park recommends using the nearby Jackson Lake Loop or the Teton Park Road for north‑south travel while the closure is in place. Those interested in winter‑season activities can look forward to a dedicated recreation corridor once the road reopens for that purpose.

Where to find updates

All construction updates, road‑condition reports, and seasonal access information are posted on the National Park Service’s official Grand Teton website. Visitors are encouraged to check the site regularly before heading to the park.

Grand Teton National Park remains a premier destination for outdoor enthusiasts, and the temporary road closure is part of a broader effort to improve safety, preserve natural resources, and enhance the visitor experience for years to come.
