A prominent state government building in downtown Montgomery has been renamed the Kay Ivey Office Building. The building, located at the corner of Dexter Avenue and South Bainbridge Street, was previously known as the Attorney General’s Office Building.
Background
The building was constructed in 1937 and has undergone several renovations, including a major renovation in 2007. It has served as the State Highway Building and the Public Safety Building in the past.
Gov. Kay Ivey, Alabama’s second female governor, has been serving since April 10, 2017. She will have served nearly 10 years when her term expires in January 2027.
The Alabama Building Renovation Finance Authority approved the renaming earlier this year after the Alabama Legislature passed a resolution urging this action.
