As students in Montgomery Public Schools prepare to return to class on August 10, the school system is stressing the importance of school zone safety. With road construction near several school campuses, the system is asking drivers to be cautious and consider alternate routes during peak hours.
School Zone Safety Measures
The most significant congestion is expected near Percy Julian High School, JAG High School, and Dannelly Elementary School. To ensure the safe arrival and dismissal of over 25,000 students, drivers are advised to avoid these areas during weekday mornings from 7:00 AM to 8:30 AM and afternoons from 2:30 PM to 3:45 PM.
Monae Stevens, the marketing and community development manager for Montgomery Public Schools, emphasized the importance of safety around school buses. “The safety of our students is our top priority, and we want to make sure that every scholar is able to get to school safely and get from school safely,” Stevens said. “If you see a bus that has stopped and has its extended stop arm out, please don’t pass that bus. Make sure that you watch for those buses and pay attention to all of what’s going on in the school areas.”
The school system will also send out text messages and emails to families to raise awareness about school zone safety.
