A Montgomery man has been convicted of child sexual abuse. Barry Purdie faces life in prison for sodomizing and sexually assaulting a girl over a two-year period when she was between the ages of 8 and 10.
Conviction and Sentencing
A jury found Purdie guilty of sodomy in the first degree and sexual abuse of a child younger than 12. He is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Tiffany McCord on August 3.
Montgomery County District Attorney Azzie Oliver praised the young survivor for the bravery and resilience she demonstrated while testifying, expressing hope that the verdict brings a measure of peace and healing to her and her family.
Oliver stated that Purdie robbed a precious child of her innocence as well as her sense of trust and security, and that the harm he inflicted extends far beyond the physical, leaving her to cope with deep emotional trauma that may never fully fade.
