Missouri City Manager Angel Jones to Step Down in July

At the recent Missouri City City Council meeting on June 1, City Manager Angel Jones announced her decision to step down from her role effective July 10. Jones, who has served as the city manager since December 2022, cited her desire to move closer to her family as the reason for her departure.

During her tenure, Jones has been instrumental in advancing key initiatives and enhancing public service within the city. She expressed her gratitude to the council members, staff, and residents, stating, “Together, we have strengthened our organization, advanced key initiatives, enhanced public service, and positioned this great city for success.” Jones added that Missouri City has become a part of her extended family.

Community and Council Reactions

City Council members, including Mayor Pro Tem Lynn Clouser, praised Jones for her leadership and contributions to the city. Clouser highlighted the unanimous decision to appoint Jones, saying, “You came here on a 7-0 vote, and that speaks volumes. You have been consistent, you have led this city and pushed this city forward.”

Council member Floyd Emery acknowledged the challenges Jones faced upon her arrival and commended her for setting standards and goals that have significantly improved the city’s direction. “Missouri City is in a much better place,” Emery stated, reflecting on the progress made under Jones’s leadership.

Mayor Robin Elackatt noted that the next city manager will have big shoes to fill, likening the city’s progress to a “playoff team” and emphasizing the strong leadership foundation Jones has established.

Looking Ahead

As the city prepares for this transition, Missouri City officials are working on an interim plan and the hiring process for the next city manager. Community Impact reached out for more details but had not received a response by press time.
