The San Antonio Missions announced that they will take the field under a new alternate identity, the San Antonio Breakfast Tacos, for three home games scheduled for April 16, 17 and 18. The promotion, which includes new black jerseys, orange caps and a new mascot, is intended to celebrate the city’s beloved breakfast taco and to test fan response to a weekly or monthly alternate‑brand schedule.
According to San Antonio Report, the three‑day “Breakfast Taco” promotion is part of a broader marketing effort that also introduces new merchandise and serves breakfast tacos at the games. Assistant General Manager Mickey Holt told reporters, “We wanted something fresh that celebrates the true colors and blended the culture of San Antonio, and what says San Antonio better than the food we love?” Holt added that the team will continue to use its existing Flying Chanclas brand on Thursdays, the alter ego introduced in 2018 to honor local Hispanic culture.
KSAT reported that General Manager David Gasaway echoed the sentiment, saying, “San Antonio has always stood at the intersection of Mexican and American culture. Nowhere is that more present than the breakfast taco.” Gasaway noted that the new identity honors “a food that has fully captured the essence of San Antonio.”
The Missions, a Double‑A affiliate of the San Diego Padres, are currently based at Nelson Wolff Municipal Stadium in Southwest San Antonio. The team’s owners, a group known as Designated Bidders, are working with the City of San Antonio on a public‑financing partnership for a new downtown stadium. The proposed $160 million, 7,500‑seat ballpark near San Pedro Creek was originally slated to open in 2028, but construction delays and rising material costs have pushed the opening to 2029.
Holt said the Breakfast Tacos promotion is a trial run and that the team could adopt the identity on a more regular basis if fan response is positive. He also emphasized that the team is not worried about balancing three brands, noting that fans initially were confused by the Flying Chanclas identity but have since embraced it.
Local residents and baseball fans are invited to attend the April games, purchase tickets, and enjoy the breakfast taco offerings. The promotion also includes limited‑edition merchandise featuring the new black and orange color scheme.
What’s next: The Missions will debut the Breakfast Tacos uniforms on April 16, 2027, with games continuing through April 18. Ticket sales are available through the team’s website and at the stadium box office. Updates on the downtown stadium project are expected later this year as the partnership between Designated Bidders and the city moves forward.
