Minot, N.D. – The Minot Hockey Boosters, a nonprofit group that keeps hockey thriving in the Magic City, have unveiled a plan to add a fourth ice rink to Maysa Arena. The organization says it will cover the full cost of construction, as well as ongoing operating and maintenance expenses, ensuring the project places no burden on taxpayers.
Boosters lead the effort
“We’ve been on the process of thinking about adding some ice as numbers are growing, and games getting bigger, and trying to figure out where we could go from there,” said Brian Bauman, Director of the Minot Hockey Boosters. “We were finally able to secure some funds and decided to take the first step by bringing it to the park district.”
The proposed rink would be the Boosters’ third major investment in Maysa Arena. In 2016 the group donated $3.5 million to build the Pepsi Rink, a cornerstone of the arena’s current facilities. Funding for the new rink would come from a combination of fundraising campaigns, private donations and charitable gaming events.
Community benefits
According to Bauman, the additional ice surface would open up more practice time for Minot State University teams, high‑school squads, the local Tauros club and adult leagues. It would also create extra space for figure‑skating programs and public skating sessions, making the arena more accessible to families and recreational skaters.
“We’re fortunate enough growth is not just from inside; we’re able to get growth from both men and women at Minot State, men and women high‑school teams, as well as the Tauros that have helped grow our community,” Bauman added.
Next steps
The Boosters plan to present a detailed proposal to the Minot Park District during meetings scheduled for November and December. They hope to move forward with construction in the new year, pending approval and final fundraising milestones.
Maysa Arena already maintains a busy schedule of hockey games and tournaments, yet public skating remains available for residents. The addition of a fourth rink would help alleviate scheduling pressures and provide a dedicated space for non‑competitive skating activities.
How to stay informed
Community members interested in the project can follow updates on the Minot Hockey Boosters’ website or attend upcoming park‑district meetings. The organization encourages continued support through donations, volunteer time and participation in charitable gaming events that help fund the arena’s expansion.
By keeping the financing entirely private, the Boosters aim to demonstrate how local philanthropy and partnership with businesses can enhance recreational infrastructure without tapping public funds, reinforcing the tradition of strong, family‑focused community development in Minot.
