Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is facing criticism after he mocked President Trump over the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, only to be reminded of his own involvement in a fraud scandal. The White House announced that the pool needs $14 million in repairs, which Trump blames on vandalism.
Walz’s Criticism Backfires
Walz posted on X, criticizing Trump’s handling of the situation, saying that Trump had ‘found an imaginary problem, said only they could fix it, didn’t listen to experts, hired buddies who grifted millions, failed miserably, bragged how great it went.’ However, this criticism backfired as conservatives pointed out that Walz had presided over a large taxpayer-fraud scandal in Minnesota.
Journalist Mark Hemingway wrote, ‘I’m sorry, TIM WALZ is accusing someone else of enabling grifting?’ Fox Business senior correspondent Charles Gasparino also criticized Walz, while a watchdog account representing Minnesota state staffers sounded the alarm on fraud, asking, ‘Tim Walz: Are you describing yourself?’
Conservative commentator Gunther Eagleman called Walz the ‘biggest fraudster in Minnesota.’ Sal Nuzzo of Consumers Defense advised Walz to ‘sit this one out.’ Former Trump White House spokesman Harrison Fields refused to grant the premise that the problem was imaginary, citing real issues such as inflation and an open border.
Republican Rep. Derrick Van Orden also brought up Walz’s disputed account of his military service, saying, ‘Crazy, you found an imaginary war record.’ This criticism highlights Walz’s credibility problems and his decision to call Trump a liar and a grifter.
