Veterans and seniors in Ocala are finding comfort and healing through mini therapy horses at a local ranch. The organization, Ponies for Patriots and Pint Size Therapy, connects people with horse therapy to promote emotional healing.
Healing Through Horse Therapy
Retired Army SSgt. Dan Hermsen, who struggles with PTSD, found comfort in a mini therapy horse named Fancy. His wife, Tracie Hermsen, introduced him to the program, and they now serve on the organization’s board of directors.
Dawn Lomelo, the founder of Ponies for Patriots and Pint Size Therapy, was inspired to start the organization after her son graduated from the Military Academy. She hopes to expand the organization’s reach and make the trails around their ranch handicap accessible.
