Milli Vanilli and Morris Day Decline to Perform at Trump-Linked Event

In a surprising turn of events, popular music acts Milli Vanilli and Morris Day have announced that they will not be performing at the upcoming Freedom 250 event in Washington, D.C. The event, which is linked to former President Donald Trump, is part of the celebrations for America’s 250th birthday.

Artists Dispute Announcements

Both Milli Vanilli and Morris Day took to social media to clarify their absence from the event. Jodie Rocco, a member of Milli Vanilli, stated that neither she nor her sister Linda Rocco, nor any other group members, had been contacted to perform. “My sister and I were shocked to see our name, ‘Milli Vanilli’, as one of the performers,” Jodie Rocco wrote in an email.

Morris Day also expressed his surprise, posting on Instagram, “Contrary to rumor, Morris Day & The Time will not be performing at the ‘GREAT AMERICAN STATE FAIR.'” Young MC, another artist initially listed, questioned the nonpartisan nature of the event, stating that artists were not informed about any political involvement.

Freedom 250’s Response

A spokesperson for Freedom 250, an organization launched by Trump to celebrate the nation’s milestone, did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The organization, led by CEO Keith Krach, aims to host a series of events on the National Mall from June 25 to July 10.

Despite the controversy, some artists remain committed to the event. Vanilla Ice, known for his hit “Ice Ice Baby,” confirmed his participation, expressing pride in celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.

Political Tensions with the Music Community

This incident highlights the ongoing tensions between Trump and the music community. Several artists, including Celine Dion, Elton John, and Guns ‘N Roses, have previously objected to their music being used at Trump-affiliated events. The Freedom 250 event appears to be the latest flashpoint in this ongoing saga.

As the event approaches, it remains to be seen how these developments will affect the overall lineup and public perception of the celebrations.
