Military Fitness Criteria Set for White House UFC Event Attendance

The Pentagon has set specific fitness criteria for military personnel wishing to attend a high-profile Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event at the White House next month. According to a memo reviewed by NBC News, troops must have a waist-to-height ratio of less than 0.55 and meet all service-specific physical fitness test requirements to qualify for tickets.

Fitness Over Rank

This event, scheduled to coincide with President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday on June 14, is part of the celebrations for America’s 250th anniversary. The memo emphasizes that tickets should be distributed to genuine UFC fans rather than based on rank, highlighting the importance of enthusiasm for the sport over military hierarchy.

While uniformed troops from commands worldwide can request tickets, the Pentagon will not cover travel expenses. The event is expected to draw significant attention, with more than 4,000 spectators anticipated on the White House South Lawn. President Trump, who is personally selecting many attendees, acknowledged the challenge of accommodating all interested parties, stating, “I’m going to make a lot of enemies because it’s impossible to get everyone tickets.”

Event Logistics

The memo also outlines the required attire for the event, specifying short sleeve uniforms with appropriate military regalia and headgear. Attendees should prepare for a standing-room-only, outdoor event without cover.

Discussions are ongoing within the Defense Department regarding whether attending troops will be considered “deployed,” similar to their status during the Army 250 parade last summer. The Pentagon has declined to comment on these deliberations.

The event underscores the Pentagon’s focus on maintaining a fit and enthusiastic image for the military, particularly during high-visibility events. Commands are advised to ensure a fair and transparent ticket selection process for interested service members.
