Miles Russell, a 17-year-old amateur golfer, has qualified for the US Open. Russell, who is ranked as the number 10 amateur in the world, earned the fourth and final spot from the Florida qualifier. He was caddied by Charlie Woods, the son of three-time US Open champion Tiger Woods.
Qualifying Details
Russell survived a bogey on the first playoff hole to grab the final spot. He was among 715 players at 10 sites across the US and Canada, all competing for 43 available spots in the 126th US Open. The medalist from the Florida qualifier was Giuseppe Puebla, who ranks second behind Russell in the American Junior Golf Association ranking.
Russell’s caddie, Charlie Woods, is a close friend and fellow golfer. When asked if he would have Woods as his caddie at the US Open, Russell said, “We’ll see what he’s doing. To be determined.” Russell enjoyed having Woods on the bag, saying it kept things light and allowed him to have a good time.
Other Qualifiers
Other notable qualifiers include Vaughn Harber, who finished his sophomore year at Ohio State and played his final five holes at The Lakes in 5-under par. Jackson Van Paris birdied his last two holes to qualify without extra holes. Arni Sveinsson, who plays for LSU, became the first player from Iceland to qualify for the US Open.
Billy Horschel, who has had a tough season, found a happy note by qualifying for the US Open. Tony Finau missed out by two shots and will not be at the US Open for the first time since 2017.
