Mike Mazzei Wins Oklahoma Republican Gubernatorial Runoff, Set to Face Democrat Cyndi Munson

Oklahoma voters concluded the Republican gubernatorial runoff Tuesday night, delivering a narrow victory to Mike Mazzei. The former state senator and businessman captured 50.3% of the vote, beating Gentner Drummond by a little more than 2,000 ballots. Drummond conceded after a marathon night of vote‑counting that saw the lead swing back and forth.

Runoff results and voter response

The race was closely contested from the start, with early returns showing Drummond holding a slight edge. As absentee and in‑person ballots continued to be tallied, Mazzei pulled ahead and maintained the lead through the evening. Election officials confirmed the final tally, and Mazzei’s supporters celebrated the win at a rally in downtown Oklahoma City.

Endorsements and campaign focus

Mazzei entered the runoff with high‑profile endorsements from President Donald Trump and Governor Kevin Stitt. In his victory speech, he emphasized a platform centered on economic growth, education reform, and tax relief. “My Democrat opponent believes in higher taxes and more government spending,” Mazzei said. “We will not accept unfair property taxes, and we will not let boys be forced to play in girls’ sports.”

Democratic opponent prepares for November

Democrat Cyndi Munson, the House minority leader who won her primary with 75% of the vote, responded by warning that Mazzei’s plans would “leave all everyday Oklahomans behind.” Munson said her campaign will focus on strengthening public schools, expanding health‑care access, and delivering tax relief for families.

General election outlook

The November 3 gubernatorial election will feature Mazzei, Munson, and three independent candidates—Robert Brooks, Orlando Lynn Bush, and Jerry Griffin. Both major‑party candidates are positioning the race around core issues that affect Oklahoma families: school funding, property tax reform, and the role of government in everyday life. With the Trump administration’s continued support for Mazzei, the Republican campaign is likely to emphasize conservative values and constitutional principles as it moves toward the fall ballot.

What voters can expect

As the campaign enters its final stretch, Oklahoma voters can expect town‑hall meetings, televised debates, and a flurry of grassroots outreach. Both campaigns have pledged to uphold the Constitution and protect the freedoms of Oklahomans, while contrasting their visions for the state’s future. Voter registration remains open, and early‑voting sites are operating across the state.
