MidAmerican Energy is warning customers about fraudulent customer service phone numbers and internet search results. Scammers are using paid search engine ads and other tactics to promote fake call center numbers for utility payments or other questions customers may have.
According to Chelsea McCracken, Vice President of Customer Operations, scammers then pose as MidAmerican employees to seek personal and financial information. MidAmerican says it will never demand immediate payment through gift cards, cryptocurrency, or other unconventional payment methods.

MidAmerican urges customers to either use the legitimate website to pay their utility bills or call the customer service number at 888-427-5632. By using the proper channels, customers can contact MidAmerican with confidence and avoid potential scams.
