Michigan Senate race heats up as GOP warns Democrat El‑Sayed’s views could reshape America

In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, former Republican gubernatorial hopeful Tudor Dixon warned Michigan voters that Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El‑Sayed could “permanently change America” if elected. Dixon cited El‑Sayed’s past opposition to bans on Sharia law and his campaign appearances with far‑left streamer Hasan Piker as evidence of a radical agenda.

Sharia law opposition draws criticism

Dixon highlighted a 2022 speech El‑Sayed gave to the Council on American‑Islamic Relations’ Oklahoma chapter, where he described efforts to ban Sharia law as rooted in white supremacy and linked them to historic injustices such as the forced removal of Native Americans and the destruction of Black Wall Street. Dixon argued that this stance suggests El‑Sayed is aligned with “Islamist values” and could seek to introduce Sharia principles into American life.

Controversial streamer partnership

El‑Sayed’s recent campaign events with Hasan Piker have become another focal point for the Republican challenger. Piker, who commands roughly ten million followers on social media, has faced backlash for remarks suggesting “America deserved 9/11” and for inflammatory comments about Hamas and the late UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Dixon said El‑Sayed’s refusal to distance himself from Piker signals a tolerance for extremist rhetoric.

El‑Sayed’s response

During an April appearance on “Fox & Friends,” El‑Sayed pushed back, stating that appearing with someone does not mean he agrees with everything they say. He maintained that his policy positions remain distinct from Piker’s statements.

Economic and ideological concerns

Dixon also framed El‑Sayed’s economic platform as beyond socialism, accusing the Democratic Party of openly embracing socialist policies. She warned that El‑Sayed’s proposals would expand government control, leaving Michigan families unable to thrive. While El‑Sayed has denied being a socialist, he has said he believes capitalism should be regulated.

Electoral dynamics

The Senate seat, currently held by retiring Democrat Gary Peters, will be contested by El‑Sayed and Republican nominee Mike Rogers. Dixon cautioned that Democrats who opposed El‑Sayed in the primary might still support him through straight‑ticket voting in November. She also suggested that some voters could cross party lines to back Rogers, making the race a pivotal factor in determining control of the U.S. Senate.

What Michigan voters should consider

As the campaign enters its final stretch, Michigan voters are being asked to weigh constitutional concerns, cultural values, and economic policy. Dixon urged voters to consider whether El‑Sayed’s positions align with the founding principles of the United States and the interests of working‑class families across the state.

Fox News Digital reached out to El‑Sayed’s campaign for comment; a response was not received at the time of publication.
