Michelle Obama recently shared a story about saving a friend’s life during dinner. The former first lady was eating with her friend, daughter Malia Obama, and two of Malia’s friends when the incident occurred.
Obama’s friend had an esophageal issue and had told Obama about it before. During dinner, the woman stood up, coughed, and began straining. Obama quickly realized something was wrong and asked if she was okay. When the woman shook her head, Obama positioned herself behind her friend and performed the Heimlich maneuver.
Obama had never done the Heimlich before, but it dislodged the object, and her friend was fine. The incident happened during a conversation about health scares on Obama’s podcast, ‘IMO,’ with her brother Craig Robinson and comedian Kevin Hart.
