Mexico’s navy reported that 10 assailants were killed after a security operation in the state of Sinaloa. The operation occurred when naval personnel were monitoring rivers and dams for sudden rises in water levels to alert communities ahead of the rainy season.
The attackers ambushed the naval personnel, and three sailors were wounded in the initial attack. One of the wounded sailors later died, while the other two are out of danger. The navy repelled a second assault in the El Rosario municipality, resulting in the deaths of the 10 assailants.
Three suspects were detained and handed over to prosecutors to open a formal investigation. The operation took place amid a major reinforcement of state security.
