Measles Exposure Warning at LAX

A measles case has been confirmed in a traveler who passed through Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on July 16. The traveler, who was infectious at the time, arrived on Delta Air Lines Flight 614 at Gate 206 in Terminal B of the Tom Bradley International Terminal at 9:45 p.m.

According to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, people who were at Gate 206 from 9:45 p.m. to 10:45 p.m. on July 16, as well as those in the corresponding baggage claim area from 10:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., may have been exposed to the virus. Passengers seated near the infected traveler will be notified by their local health departments in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Measles Symptoms and Prevention

People who were at the affected locations during the specified times could develop measles seven to 21 days after exposure. Those who have had measles in the past or received the recommended vaccine are likely protected but should continue monitoring for symptoms. The MMR vaccine is the safest and most reliable way to prevent measles and protect yourself, your family, and your community, according to Dr. Muntu Davis, Los Angeles County health officer.

Symptoms of measles may include a rash that typically begins on the face before spreading to the rest of the body. The department urged residents to ensure they are fully protected against measles before traveling as outbreaks continue in the United States and internationally.
