EL PASO, Texas – The local youth theater group known as The Plastics is set to bring the high‑school adaptation of the hit 2004 film Mean Girls back to the city this September. The performances, presented by Kids‑N‑Co. Performing Arts and Education Center, will take place on Sept. 11 and 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the community theater at 1340 Murchison Drive.
Auditions were held in July, and after six weeks of rehearsals the cast and crew are ready to showcase a production that blends comedy, music, and choreography while addressing themes of friendship, peer pressure, and finding one’s own voice. The show is designed for a family‑friendly audience, offering a fresh take on familiar characters.
Local Talent Shines
Franklin High School sophomore Alex Garcia steps into the role of Regina George, describing the experience as a lifelong dream. “It’s insane—I’ve loved this movie since I was little. Playing Regina is amazing; there are no words,” Garcia said.
Director Raul Chavez emphasized that the production is more than a replica of the film. “I told my cast that these characters, even though we know them and love them, belong to the performers. Bring something of yourselves to the role. When you see the show, you won’t see the movie’s Regina—you’ll see our Regina,” Chavez explained.
Community Support and Participation
Local officials praised the effort, noting how the musical provides a positive outlet for young people and highlights the city’s vibrant arts scene. One performer added, “We worked very hard, and it really shows. It’s filled with passion and talent from people all over El Paso who truly care about the art of theater.”
The production also offers an opportunity for families to enjoy a wholesome evening together while supporting local arts education. Tickets are available online through the theater’s website; seats are expected to fill quickly.
