Emergency responders performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on former Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell after finding him unconscious at his Washington, D.C., residence in June, according to recently released dispatch audio.
Medical Emergency
A District Fire and EMS dispatch call recording from June 14 shows that an Advanced Life Support ambulance arrived at the 84-year-old Kentucky senator’s home shortly before 9 a.m. Paramedics responded to the scene for a “cardiac arrest.”
Hours after the emergency response, McConnell’s spokesperson, David Popp, issued a statement confirming the senator had been “admitted” to the hospital and was receiving “excellent care.” McConnell’s office has declined to share further details about his current health status or the cause of the medical emergency.
The incident follows a series of physical setbacks for McConnell over the last few years. Most recently, he missed Senate votes in February after being hospitalized for flu-like symptoms.
