A former police officer in Mauldin, South Carolina, has been terminated and stripped of her law enforcement certification after allegedly misusing the Flock Safety system to track her ex-lover. According to separation papers, the officer, Ellie Anna Hammond, used the system to track her ex-lover at least 166 times between March and July of 2026.
Abuse of Flock System
The paperwork further states that Hammond logged each entry under false pretenses, including “Warrant Check, Traffic Infraction and Welfare Check.” The lieutenant who filed Hammond’s paperwork stated that the justification behind her Flock entries was never the “real reason.” This incident is the latest in a series of cases of officers allegedly abusing the Flock Safety system in South Carolina.
The Greer Police Department recently terminated two officers for similar misconduct, and other agencies in the state have also reported cases of Flock abuse. The South Carolina Sheriff’s Association has argued that isolated misconduct should not be taken as evidence that the technology itself is improper, but critics argue that the lack of transparency and accountability in the use of Flock raises concerns about privacy and abuse of power.
