Patrick Clancy, the father of the children, testified in court about his ex-wife’s downward spiral into mental illness. He described her as a dedicated mother who loved her children, but struggled with stress, anxiety, and other mental health issues after giving birth to their third child.
According to Patrick Clancy, Lindsay Clancy’s mental health began to deteriorate in September 2022, and she was prescribed numerous medications by different doctors. However, her condition worsened in December 2022, after she started taking a new antipsychotic medication. She told her husband that she was having suicidal thoughts and intrusive thoughts about harming the children.
The Day of the Tragedy
On January 24, 2023, Patrick Clancy left the house to pick up medicine for their oldest child and a takeout order. When he returned, he found the house unusually quiet and discovered his children lying motionless in the basement with exercise resistance bands around their necks. Lindsay Clancy was found in the backyard with deep cuts on her wrists and neck, and she told her husband that she had tried to kill herself.
The prosecution argues that Lindsay Clancy acted intentionally and deliberately to kill her children, while the defense claims that she was not in control of her actions due to her mental illness.
