A patriotic woman from Massachusetts, Donna Festinger, took matters into her own hands after her state’s leaders decided to boycott the Great American State Fair. Festinger paid her own way to the nation’s capital to celebrate 250 years of American independence and is manning her state’s booth at the fair.
Boycott and Celebration
Festinger expressed disappointment that her state, along with others, decided not to participate in the celebration, calling it ‘shameful.’ She believes the boycotts are actually a point of unity for the American public, as most people are upset about it and do not understand why a governor would do that.
Meanwhile, Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey mocked the fair in an interview, claiming without evidence that President Trump is using the fair to ‘get money into his own pocket.’ Festinger also recently received support from Judith Kalaora, a Boston resident who stood at the state’s stand dressed in a Revolutionary War uniform to honor Deborah Sampson, a Massachusetts woman who disguised herself as a man to fight the British.
Kalaora hopes that her presence will unite folks to realize that Boston and Massachusetts have a great spirit, and that spirit can unite the United States through the nation’s heritage and military history. Eleven states, all run by Democrats, decided to skip the fair, with some citing explicitly anti-Trump reasons for declining to participate.
