Mass shootings in Chicago and Trenton leave 3 dead and 18 injured

Police reported two separate mass shootings on Saturday night and early Sunday that claimed three lives and left eighteen others injured. The incidents occurred in Chicago, Illinois, and Trenton, New Jersey.

Chicago shooting

At approximately 11:37 p.m. Saturday, gunfire erupted inside Washington Park in the Hyde Park neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side. Officers were already on the scene attempting to disperse a large gathering when multiple shots were fired. A 35‑year‑old man was found with fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Hospital. Nine additional victims, five men and four women ranging from 23 to 45 years old, were taken to area hospitals for treatment. Police have not announced any arrests and believe more than one shooter may have been involved. The motive remains under investigation.

Trenton shooting

Just under 800 miles away, Trenton police responded to a shooting on Locust Street in the Greenwood & Hamilton neighborhood shortly after midnight. Two people were killed and nine others were wounded. The injured were transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, though their conditions have not been released. No arrests have been reported, and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force is leading the investigation.

Both incidents underscore the ongoing challenge of gun violence in American communities. Authorities continue to seek information and encourage anyone with relevant details to contact law enforcement.
