A mass casualty crash occurred in western Natrona County on Friday, June 26, involving 17 people and resulting in two fatalities. The crash happened around mile marker 88 on US Highway 20/26.
Response Efforts
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Natrona County Fire District, Mills Fire Department, Banner Wyoming Medical Center, and Evansville Fire/EMS, as well as law enforcement officials from the Natrona County Sheriff’s Office and Wyoming Highway Patrol.
Upon arrival, crews were presented with a chaotic scene, consisting of multiple damaged vehicles, a large debris field, multiple victims, and a large bystander presence. Eight people were transported to Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, with six by ground ambulance and two by air ambulance. The remaining seven victims were either uninjured or suffered minor injuries and refused to be transported to the hospital.
The incident also involved the Casper Public Safety Communications Center, Wyoming Highway Patrol dispatch, WYDOT crews, and road construction crews. The Natrona County Fire District thanked all of the bystanders who assisted victims immediately after the crash, while waiting for help to arrive, as well as while responders were on-scene, offering shelter during the passing of a thunder cell, emotional support, and minor patient care.
