The Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown is updating its policy on animal intakes. The group shared the update on social media, stating that it has been contacted about numerous animal control issues outside of its jurisdiction.
This has created ongoing confusion for the public and has placed the ARL in situations where it is expected to perform services it is not authorized, funded, or equipped to provide. As a result, anyone trying to drop off an animal from outside city limits will be advised to call their county sheriff or board of supervisors.
People can choose to keep the animal for the seven-day hold period and then surrender the animal to the ARL of Marshalltown, but there must be proof of trying to find the owner. The shelter says the policy could lead to slower response times.
