Marshall completes $160K emergency communications center upgrade

Marshall, Texas – City leaders, first‑responders and community members gathered Friday at the Marshall Police Department for a ribbon‑cutting ceremony marking the completion of upgrades to the city’s Emergency Communications Center. The project, financed by a $160,000 grant from the Texas Eastern 9‑1‑1 Network, brings new technology, updated software and modern workstations to the dispatch hub.

Modern tools for faster response

According to Police Chief Cliff Carruth, the new equipment will allow dispatchers to handle 9‑1‑1 calls more efficiently, coordinate emergency responses more effectively, and strengthen public safety across Marshall and surrounding communities. “These upgrades give us the tools we need to serve our citizens better,” Carruth said during the ceremony.

Grant support and community partnership

The Texas Eastern 9‑1‑1 Network grant reflects a broader state effort to bolster emergency communications infrastructure in smaller municipalities. By providing funding for technology upgrades, the network helps ensure that rural and mid‑size cities can meet modern standards for rapid, reliable emergency response.

Impact on local first responders

First‑responders on the day of the ceremony noted that the modernized workstations will reduce the time it takes to route calls to police, fire and EMS units. “When seconds matter, having up‑to‑date software and reliable hardware makes a real difference,” said a veteran dispatcher who preferred not to be named.

Looking ahead

City officials say the upgraded center positions Marshall to handle future growth in call volume and to integrate emerging technologies such as enhanced location services and automated incident logging. The improvements also lay groundwork for potential regional collaboration with neighboring jurisdictions, further expanding the safety net for East Texas residents.

Community gratitude

Local businesses and civic groups contributed to the event, underscoring the community’s shared commitment to public safety. Attendees expressed confidence that the upgraded communications hub will serve as a model for other small cities seeking similar enhancements.

With the upgrades now operational, Marshall’s emergency services are better equipped to protect families, uphold the rule of law, and respond swiftly to any crisis that may arise.
