The Marquette University women’s soccer team opened the 2026 campaign with a 4-0 victory at St. Thomas on Wednesday in non-conference action.
Megan Murray opened the scoring in the fifth minute, converting a free kick from just outside the box. Her attempt took a deflection off the St. Thomas wall before finding the back of the net to give the Golden Eagles an early 1-0 lead.
Later at the 24:16 mark, the Golden Eagles doubled their advantage on a perfectly placed free kick from midfield by Lilly Coats. It marked the first goal of Coats’ collegiate career.
Marquette added to its advantage later in the half, with Ella McAleenan heading one home, following a corner kick to make it 3-0 headed into the break.
The Golden Eagles extended their lead in the second half at the 58:18 mark when freshman Callie Hefner found the back of the net for the first time in her collegiate career. Hefner fired a shot into the top-right corner to give the Golden Eagles a 4-0 advantage.
