Marine Veteran Disarms Teen During Attempted Robbery in Maryland

In Oxon Hill, Maryland, a Marine veteran’s quick thinking and military training played a crucial role in disarming a teen during an attempted robbery. Jheyco Borda, the veteran, was working on his truck when four teenagers approached him, demanding his phone, truck keys, and other valuables.

Borda recounted the tense moment when one of the teens pointed a gun at him and demanded his keys. However, Borda, who uses his phone to unlock and start his truck, noticed an opportunity when the armed suspect briefly looked away. Seizing the moment, he grabbed the gun from the teen, initiating a struggle captured on video.

Borda’s brother, Peter, quickly joined the fray to assist. During the altercation, a shot was fired, but fortunately, it missed both Borda and his brother, hitting the truck instead. Borda credited his Marine Corps training, particularly in weapons safety, for his ability to react effectively under pressure.

After gaining control of the weapon, Borda’s father, Pedro, and brother helped restrain the suspects until police arrived. The Prince George’s County Police Department has identified all suspects, and the investigation remains active, with potential charges being discussed with the State’s Attorney’s Office.

Reflecting on the incident, Borda emphasized the importance of self-defense but cautioned others against taking similar risks. He expressed hope that the teens involved would learn from the experience and make better choices in the future.
