Former Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV) recently expressed his strong opposition to supporting any socialist candidate during an appearance on CBS News’s “Face the Nation.” Manchin pointed to what he described as extreme policy proposals within the movement.
Manchin’s Concerns
When asked by host Margaret Brennan if he would ever consider backing a socialist candidate, Manchin responded with a firm “No way, my God, no.” He added that while he would support individual good ideas, he could not support the broader platform of socialist candidates, citing their desire to dismantle existing government structures, including Congress and the Senate, as well as policy positions such as defunding the police.
