A man climbed onto an arch of the Sixth Street Bridge in downtown Los Angeles, causing traffic to come to a standstill. The bridge, which connects downtown Los Angeles and Boyle Heights, was closed as police and firefighters responded to the scene.
The shirtless man, wearing a bandanna on his head, climbed onto one of the bridge’s arches at about 8:30 a.m. and threatened to jump, authorities said. The viaduct has 10 pairs of arches that are 10 feet wide with spans of about 300 feet. The arches range in height from 30 feet to 60 feet.
