Man Killed in Shooting at Kent Metro Park-and-Ride Lot

Kent police confirmed that a man was fatally shot on Tuesday, September 15, at the Metro Kent Des Moines Park-and‑Ride lot, located at 23405 Military Road S. on the West Hill of Kent, just east of Interstate 5 and north of State Route 516. Officers were dispatched at approximately 6:07 p.m. after 911 callers reported hearing gunfire and seeing a person on the ground.

Response and investigation

When officers arrived, they found the victim lying with obvious gunshot wounds. Life‑saving efforts were initiated and then handed over to Puget Sound Fire and King County Medics. Despite their rapid response, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses told police that the suspect(s) fled the area shortly after the shots were fired, but they were unable to provide a physical description or any details about a vehicle. Police indicated that the shooting does not appear to be random, though the motive remains under investigation.

The victim has not yet been positively identified, but authorities believe he was likely between 18 and 25 years old.

Second shooting nearby

Later that evening, just after 8 p.m., a second shooting was reported near the intersection of Kent Des Moines Road and Pacific Highway South, a few blocks west of the first incident. Officers discovered spent gun casings near a restaurant southwest of the intersection. No injuries were reported in that second incident, and police continue to canvass the area for additional information.

At this time, investigators have not determined whether the two shootings are connected. Detectives will review all available evidence, including surveillance footage and forensic data, to establish any link.

Police request for tips

Neighboring law‑enforcement agencies have been notified of both shootings, and the limited information currently available has been shared with them. Kent Police are urging anyone with information about either incident to contact the Kent Police Tip Line at 253‑856‑5808, email [email protected], or call 911 if the information is urgent.

Community members are reminded to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. The department will provide updates as the investigation progresses.
