A 40-year-old Maine man, Robert Boggia Jr., died in a car crash on Charlotte Road in Charlotte, Maine, after threatening patrons at a local bar in Calais.
According to Maine State Police, Boggia had been at a bar in Calais, where he threatened people with a semi-automatic rifle. He fled the scene in a red Corvette at speeds of 150 mph.
Baileyville police attempted to catch up with the vehicle but were unsuccessful. A Washington County sheriff’s deputy was on Charlotte Road when Boggia’s car drove by at a high rate of speed, but the deputy was unable to catch up with it until he came across the crash scene.
Boggia had been thrown from his car and was found a significant distance away. High speed contributed to the crash, and toxicology results on Boggia are still pending.
