Lubbock Independent School District (ISD) notified its staff on Tuesday, October 6, that a recent cyber incident at its education‑software provider, Frontline Education, exposed sensitive employee information. The breach included Social Security numbers, email addresses and physical addresses of district employees.
Timeline of the incident
According to details supplied by Frontline Education, the unauthorized access occurred on August 14, 2026. Frontline discovered the intrusion the following day, August 15, and took steps to remediate the vulnerability. However, the vendor did not inform Lubbock ISD of the breach until October 6, more than seven weeks later.
Student data remains safe
District officials emphasized that Frontline has confirmed no student records were part of the compromised data set. Lubbock ISD pledged to promptly notify families should any new information emerge indicating student data was affected.
Response and support for affected staff
Frontline Education will begin contacting the impacted employees on October 26, providing specific details about the information tied to each individual. The company has also reported the breach to the Texas Attorney General and local law‑enforcement agencies.
To help mitigate potential identity‑theft risks, Frontline is partnering with TransUnion to offer two years of free credit monitoring for anyone whose data was exposed. A dedicated hotline (833‑516‑8792) is available Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Central Time, for questions and assistance.
What employees can do now
District leadership urges staff members to monitor their credit reports, bank accounts and any unexpected communications. The Federal Trade Commission’s identity‑theft resource provides step‑by‑step guidance for individuals who have experienced a data breach.
“We take the privacy and security of our employees very seriously,” said a Lubbock ISD spokesperson. “While we are relieved that student information was not compromised, we are working closely with Frontline and state authorities to ensure a thorough response and to protect our staff moving forward.”
Ongoing investigation
Lubbock ISD continues to gather additional details about the breach and will share updates as they become available. The district’s priority remains safeguarding the community’s personal information and maintaining transparency throughout the investigation.
