DJ Salas, a lieutenant with Lubbock Fire Rescue, was named Fire Officer of the Year. Salas has been with the department for 18 and a half years. He is a combat field medic veteran who served in Iraq.
Leadership Opportunity
Salas joined the Army and was a combat field medic. After his service, he needed structure and found an opportunity to join the South Plains Fire Academy. He completed the academy and was hired by Lubbock Fire Rescue.
Salas is involved in his community, participating in his kids’ events and sports teams. His wife works for Communities In Schools, and he helps her when needed.
Salas’ favorite quote is from General Tommy Franks: “Respect is more important than popularity.” He enjoys the outdoors, fishing with his sons, and traveling with his family.
