Waterfront Botanical Gardens in Louisville, Kentucky, has been awarded a $4 million EPA Brownfields Cleanup grant. The grant will help transform a former downtown landfill into a usable green space.
Grant Details
The money will be used to bring in clean soil to make room for future planted beds, meadows, walking paths, and an event lawn. Andrew Hagerty, Director of Horticulture and Facilities, said, “Being able to once again just get a bunch of real clean soil and bring it to the site is huge for us. It’s going to give us the opportunity to develop even more acres.”
Work is expected to start in 2026. The EPA grant is seen as an investment in tourism and economic development for Louisville and the Commonwealth.
