Thousands of people packed Waterfront Park on Friday to celebrate the Fourth of July with live music, family activities, festival food, and the largest fireworks display in the event’s 30-year history.
America 250 Commemoration
This year’s Fourth of July celebration was part of Louisville’s year-long America 250 commemoration, honoring the nation’s 250th anniversary. Families arrived early to claim shady spots on the Great Lawn before an evening of entertainment along the Ohio River.
Attendee Lekeshia Wright said she was looking forward to the food and the atmosphere. ‘I really want a funnel cake. Of course, the singing. But yes, I’m most excited about the food, family fun, just the energy, everybody’s energy,’ she said.
Food vendors spent the day preparing for large crowds. Vendor Richard Caron said he enjoys both the business and the community spirit. ‘We come out here once a year. Really big event. You have to come out and have a good time, make a little money. You meet a lot of people,’ Caron said.
The celebration ended with a spectacular fireworks display over the Ohio River. Organizers said it was the biggest fireworks show in the event’s 30-year history.
