Louisiana OMV shuts all customer service centers Monday for system upgrade

Shreveport, La. – Residents throughout Louisiana should plan for a brief interruption in motor vehicle services on Monday, September 14, as the Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) closes every customer service center for a day of staff training and system modernization.

Statewide closure impacts drivers and businesses

The shutdown applies to all state‑run OMV offices as well as third‑party agents and auto‑title companies that contract with the agency. Those partners will be unable to process driver’s license renewals, reinstatements, vehicle registrations, or title transactions through Monday.

Online services were also affected over the weekend. The agency’s official website, expresslane.la.gov, and the LA Wallet digital portal were temporarily unavailable on Saturday and Sunday, leaving many residents unable to complete routine transactions online.

Why the closure matters

The OMV says the temporary closure is part of a broader effort to modernize its technology platform and improve service efficiency. By dedicating a full day to staff training and system upgrades, the agency aims to reduce wait times and enhance the reliability of both in‑person and digital services.

“Our goal is to provide faster, more reliable service to the people of Louisiana,” the OMV spokesperson explained. “While the short‑term inconvenience is regrettable, the long‑term benefits will be significant for drivers, businesses, and anyone needing vehicle‑related paperwork.”

What residents should do

Anyone who needs to complete a motor‑vehicle transaction before Monday should try to do so online before the weekend or visit an office before the closure. For urgent matters, the OMV advises callers to use its automated phone system, which remains operational.

Normal operations are expected to resume on Tuesday, September 15, with both physical locations and online portals back online. The agency will monitor the system rollout and provide updates if any further disruptions occur.

Community impact

Local businesses that rely on timely vehicle registration and title processing—such as car dealerships, trucking firms, and auto‑repair shops—are encouraged to plan ahead. The brief pause is expected to have minimal long‑term impact, but businesses should adjust schedules accordingly.

Residents can stay informed by checking the OMV’s social‑media channels or the agency’s website for real‑time updates.
