Logan Square’s traffic circle redesign is now complete, with a new traffic pattern, two plazas, and almost an acre of park space. The $27 million project also includes improved bike lanes, larger sidewalks, and new lighting near the Illinois Centennial Monument.
Community Celebration
Community leaders, city officials, and neighbors gathered to celebrate the completion of the project. Ald. Anthony Quezada (35th) said the project is ‘a transformational investment in our neighborhoods that will benefit us today and the generations to come.’ The redesign has improved safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists, while also increasing access to public transportation and supporting local businesses.
The project has also brought new life to the area, with the Logan Square farmers market moving to the new plaza last month. The market has seen over 80,000 visitors in the past seven weeks, with vendors reporting increased sales. The new space has also been praised for its inviting atmosphere, with one vendor describing it as feeling ‘like somebody is hugging you.’
Future Developments
The completion of the traffic circle redesign has paved the way for future construction projects in the area. Later this summer, work will begin on the rehabilitation of the Logan Square Blue Line Station canopy, and the Comfort Station will undergo a major renovation.
