Lincoln woman identified after fatal camper fire under investigation

Lincoln Fire and Rescue (LFR) and the Lincoln Police Department (LPD) were called to a camper fire on the morning of Aug. 26 at approximately 11 a.m. The blaze erupted while a 27‑year‑old woman, later identified as Amber Spencer of Lincoln, was inside the vehicle.

A bystander rushed to the scene in an attempt to rescue Ms. Spencer, but the fire quickly engulfed the camper. Emergency crews worked to contain the flames and provide medical aid. Ms. Spencer was transported to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries later that evening.

Investigation underway

LPD officials have opened a suspicious‑death investigation. An autopsy was scheduled for the following morning, and investigators are gathering witness statements, reviewing digital evidence, and examining video surveillance footage. Crime Scene Technicians have also processed physical evidence collected at the scene.

Law enforcement is urging anyone who may have seen the fire, heard unusual activity, or captured video of the incident to come forward. Tips can be submitted directly to the Lincoln Police Department at 402‑441‑6000, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 402‑475‑3600.

Community response

The tragic loss has resonated deeply within the Lincoln community. Local residents expressed sorrow for Ms. Spencer and gratitude for the bystander who attempted a rescue. Community leaders emphasized the importance of vigilance and cooperation with investigators to bring clarity to the circumstances surrounding the fire.

Lincoln Fire and Rescue reminded citizens of fire safety practices, especially when using portable campers or trailers. They advised keeping fire extinguishers readily available, ensuring proper ventilation, and never leaving flammable materials unattended.

Next steps

As the investigation proceeds, LPD will continue to release updates as new information becomes available. The department reiterated its commitment to a thorough and transparent inquiry, aiming to determine whether foul play was involved and to hold any responsible parties accountable.

Residents with information are encouraged to contact authorities promptly. The cooperation of the public is essential to achieving a full understanding of this heartbreaking incident and to help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
