Lincoln, Neb. – The Lincoln Lancaster County Narcotics Task Force is actively investigating the illegal sale of nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, after a tip led officers to 3D Smoke Shop on the city’s west side.
Task force operation and seizure
Lincoln Police Department (LPD) received a report that the shop was offering nitrous oxide for purchase. Acting on the information, task‑force agents bought a tank of Galaxy Gas, a flavored nitrous oxide product, to confirm the violation. Because Nebraska law prohibits the sale of nitrous oxide, the agents secured a search warrant and entered the premises.
During the warrant execution, officers seized all nitrous oxide items on site, including six cans of the gas. The seizure was conducted without incident, and no arrests have been made at this stage of the investigation.
Wider probe of local retailers
Investigators also examined seven additional smoke shops in the Lincoln area that were suspected of carrying the same product. After thorough checks, no nitrous oxide was found at those locations.
LPD emphasized that the task force will continue random spot checks of smoke shops throughout the region to ensure compliance with state law.
Public‑health warning
Officials reminded the community that inhaling nitrous oxide, often called “whipping” or “huffing,” poses serious health risks, including loss of consciousness, nerve damage, and even death. The department urged residents to report any suspicious activity and to keep such substances away from children.
While no citations have been issued yet, the investigation remains open, and the task force will pursue further leads as they arise.
