LibraryCon Returns to El Paso Main Library with “Borderland Heroes” Theme

El Paso, Texas – The El Paso Public Library’s Main Library at 501 N Oregon St. will again open its doors for LibraryCon, a free, family‑friendly convention that blends the excitement of a comic‑con with the community focus of a public library. The event returns for its second year on Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., under the theme “Borderland Heroes.”

What to Expect

Attendees can explore a curated marketplace of local vendors showcasing books, tabletop games, artwork and handmade crafts. Throughout the day, the library will host a series of workshops designed to inspire creativity, from illustration techniques to storytelling basics. The highlight for many will be the cosplay contest, where participants of all ages can dress as their favorite heroes and heroines from the borderland region and beyond.

How to Participate

El Paso Libraries have opened an application for vendors and exhibitors, with a deadline of Friday, Sept. 18. Interested parties can submit their proposals through the library’s online portal. This open‑call approach ensures a diverse array of local talent and businesses have the opportunity to connect with the community.

Pre‑Event Activities

For those who cannot attend the main day, the library has scheduled additional fandom‑based events. On Thursday, Sept. 17, the Mexican American Cultural Center will host “Villains Take the Night,” an adults‑only rooftop gathering from 7‑9 p.m. featuring a cosplay contest, crafts, refreshments and a relaxed social atmosphere for patrons 21 and older.

On Sunday, Sept. 20, the library invites fans of all ages to a free outdoor screening of the superhero film Blue Beetle at Cleveland Square Park. The movie starts at 7:30 p.m.; families are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets. Popcorn and cotton candy will be provided while supplies last.

Why LibraryCon Matters

LibraryCon exemplifies how public libraries can serve as cultural hubs, offering safe, educational entertainment that aligns with family values and encourages community engagement. By highlighting local creators and providing a platform for artistic expression, the event supports the traditional family pillar of the HyperLocal Loop mission while also celebrating the vibrant creativity of the El Paso region.

All activities are free and open to the public, reinforcing the library’s commitment to accessibility and lifelong learning. For more information, including the vendor application link, visit the El Paso Libraries website.
