Liberty Patriots aim to repeat state‑final run after strong 4‑0 start

Liberty High School’s girls soccer program, known as the Patriots, began the 2026 season with a perfect 4‑0 record and is already talking about a repeat appearance in the state championship. After falling short in the 2025 3A title game against Bellevue, the team is eager to build on last year’s momentum.

Coach emphasizes continuity and fresh talent

Head coach Ryan Johnson praised the blend of returning veterans and incoming freshmen during practice on Sept. 9. “Last year we just got it put together at the right moment,” Johnson said. “This year we have a lot of new players, a lot of great freshmen that are going to be the future of the program.”

The Patriots have already scored 15 goals in four games, with standout performances against Timberline (seven goals) and Juanita (five goals). Senior forward Mia Carr highlighted the team’s confidence: “We have a good group. I am excited because we made it so far last year, and I feel we have a good chance this year.”

Defensive solidity anchors early success

Defensively, Liberty has allowed just one goal, a 2‑1 loss to Skyline on Sept. 4. Senior defender Elle Taylor, one of three captains, praised the backline’s experience: “Having a captain in the backline makes it a lot easier because I have a lot of energy on the field. I am very competitive and don’t like to lose.”

Senior defender Addie Streur added, “There is a big level of commitment from everybody coming into this year. After we saw what we were capable of doing, we have been taking it seriously.”

Key players step up

Senior defender Ella Look earned recognition from her captain for her work behind the scenes, while Annalisa Hall returned from injury to contribute as a forward, already tallying several goals and assists. Goalkeeper duo Morgan Sweeney and junior Destiny Davis have also earned praise for their strong play between the posts.

Looking ahead

The Patriots’ next test comes on the road against Highline on Sept. 15. Coach Johnson remains optimistic: “We can’t let ourselves slip and build it back up. We have to come out strong and keep momentum going.” The team’s focus remains on using the regular‑season schedule to prepare for what Johnson expects will be a tougher postseason gauntlet.

With a blend of seasoned leaders and promising newcomers, Liberty’s girls soccer squad hopes to translate its early‑season dominance into another deep run in the state tournament, aiming to finally capture the 3A championship that eluded them last year.
