LexWell Festival offers free health screenings and family fun in Lexington

Lexington, Ky. – On Saturday, families in Lexington converged on the Newtown Pike campus of Bluegrass Community and Technical College for the second annual LexWell Festival. The free, community‑driven event combined health screenings, wellness information and a variety of family‑friendly attractions, reinforcing the city’s commitment to accessible health care and strong family values.

Free screenings and wellness resources

Local health providers set up stations offering blood pressure checks, cholesterol testing, vision and hearing screenings, and basic immunizations. Attendees could also receive counseling on nutrition, exercise, mental health and chronic‑disease management. Representatives from the Kentucky Department for Public Health, community clinics and nonprofit organizations staffed the booths, ensuring that residents received accurate, up‑to‑date medical information.

Family‑focused entertainment

Beyond the medical services, the festival featured a lineup of activities designed for children and parents alike. Bounce houses, face‑painting stations and interactive games kept kids active, while food trucks served a variety of affordable meals and snacks. Local musicians performed throughout the day, creating a festive atmosphere that encouraged community members to linger, converse and build connections.

Organizers’ vision

Dave Peterson, community programs manager for the festival, explained that the goal extends beyond a traditional health fair. “It’s a health fair, but there’s so much more than just information about bettering your health and community supports,” Peterson said. “We have bounce houses, we’ve got food trucks, we’ve got all kinds of fun family activities going on today.” The organizers emphasized that making wellness resources readily available helps families make informed health decisions without the barriers of cost or transportation.

Looking ahead

Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many parents noting the convenience of receiving health checks while their children enjoyed the entertainment. Organizers announced that LexWell will return around the same time next year, aiming to expand services and include additional partners to further broaden the reach of health education in Lexington.

Why the festival matters

Access to preventive health care remains a critical issue in many communities, especially for families facing economic challenges. By offering free screenings in a welcoming, family‑oriented setting, the LexWell Festival aligns with the values of personal responsibility, community support and the preservation of strong family units. The event also underscores the importance of local institutions—such as Bluegrass Community and Technical College—in fostering public‑health initiatives that benefit all residents.

For more information about upcoming health‑related events in Lexington, residents are encouraged to follow local health department announcements and community organization newsletters.
