In response to recent layoffs affecting Fayette County Public Schools, the city of Lexington is taking proactive steps to support those impacted. A virtual job fair is being organized by WORK-Lexington, the city’s primary workforce initiative, in collaboration with the Kentucky Career Center – Bluegrass/American Job Center. This event is scheduled for Wednesday, June 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Community Support for School Employees
The virtual job fair aims to assist the 49 hourly and 71 salaried employees, including 17 administrators, who are facing job cuts. Mayor Linda Gorton emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “These are our neighbors and friends who are struggling right now.” The event is designed to connect affected employees with essential services, resources, and job opportunities, thanks to strong partnerships with employers and state and local organizations.
Employers from across Kentucky are invited to participate in the job fair, providing a wide range of potential employment opportunities for those affected. Registration for employers is available through the Premier Virtual platform.
Strengthening Local Workforce
WORK-Lexington’s mission is to help individuals find employment by leveraging partnerships and resources. This initiative reflects the community’s commitment to supporting its members during challenging times, reinforcing the values of family and community solidarity. By hosting this job fair, Lexington is not only addressing immediate employment needs but also fostering a resilient local workforce.
